Carnac is known worldwide for the impressive standing stone alignments of Kermario, Kerlescan and Menec, their different types of megaliths and the Museum of Prehistory. But it is also, first and foremost, one of the most fashionable resorts in southern Brittany; its long fine sand beaches are eminently inviting and perfect for sunbathing and swimming, as well as sailing and all manner of other water sports.

Carnac beach enjoys over 2,000 hours of sunshine a year thanks to a micro-climate, and warm currents make the water a pleasant temperature, as in many seaside towns along the south coast. The seafront is a lively place throughout the season, and of an evening you will undoubtedly linger on a pavement terrace to enjoy the cooling air, or in a restaurant with a region-wide reputation.

And why not have a treatment or spend a day at the thalassotherapy centre? Also, from Auray you can take a boat that cruises around the Gulf of Morbihan, a maze of islands inhabited by all kinds of birds. One of the mildest and loveliest regions in the west of France!
